Master Phill Evans – BSc
Founder and President of the UK Taekwondo Group
4th Degree Black Belt
Master Phill Evans was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1972 and starting training in free style karate at the age of 10 under Master Andy Marriott. Phil attained his black belt in free style karate at the age of 14. He then began training in WTF Taekwondo under Master Peter Johnson and Master T W Shin of the UTA.
Taekwondo became a massive part of Phill's life, training 5 days a week and teaching 3 lessons a week under the Stoke-on-Trent UTA. Phill moved to Manchester to study for his degree in 1991 and continued his training under Master T W Shin in Manchester. After his degree he moved to Coventry and began training with Master Neil Guest of the Heart of England Taekwondo. Phill took his 2nd degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo in 1998 during his training with Master Neil Guest. During this time he was training in Thai-Boxing and also began training in Aikedo.
In 2005 Phill set up his own Free Style Taekwondo group in London and continued his teaching under the UKASKO organization. With strong emphasis still on the WTF style of Taekwondo Phill introduced techniques from Boxing and Aikedo to strengthen the syllabus.
During this time Phill began designing his own Self Defense Program with Master Andrew Marriott of Stoke-on-Trent Kickboxing Club which he then began teaching in organizations throughout London and incorporated into his own Taekwondo classes. This self defense course has now been adopted my the Martial Arts Guild as a separate offering to the Martial Arts Community.
In 2007 Phill met Master Jake Ogden of the World Jado Kuin Do Organization (WJO) and began training with him. The Jado Kuin Do system was exciting as it broke away from the traditions of older styles and incorporated new sports training techniques. Phill achieved his Black belt in Jado Kuin Do in 2009.
Continuing with close ties to the WJO Phill has worked hard to develop the new curriculum for the UKTG which is now delivered with the close backing of the Martial Arts Guild (MAG).
"Working with Master Ogden over the last 3 years has given me the incentive to create this new organization. The UK Taekwondo Group (UKTG) is the result of many years of training. The syllabus is new and exciting and am keen to driving the Organization forward."
